Introducing… the National Development Squad!

The Sailors

The National Development Squad is aimed at those sailors who are looking for a little more stretch than their regular weekend training at their club but aren’t yet ready for the UK Junior Squad or National Squad. They can confidently get their Cadet around the racecourse but are looking for some guidance to become complete sailors – perhaps refine that spinnaker work or understand the intricacies of starts.

The Training

There will be four structured training sessions covering different areas of racing, from starting to different points of sail to boat handling to tactics and everything in between. Classroom lessons will introduce concepts that are then reinforced through on-the-water drills with video recording and feedback sessions after sailing. Sailors can seek personal feedback and development based on their skills and needs.

The Coach

The Lead Coach for the National Development Squad will be Alex Page, a former Cadet sailor. Alex won youngest sailor at the Inland Championships not once but three times, starting when he was just 6! He has been on podiums up and down the country, has been Inland Champion, u15 Champion at the Nationals, won a place in the World Team in 2014 and went on to race in the 420 class. He is a great coach and works well with young sailors and can’t wait to pass on his expertise to the next generation. Alex will have an assistant coach to help him out.
