As part of a new series highlighting the stories of cadet sailors through the ages we’d like to start by talking about Jamie Lea.  In 1990 Jamie Lea won the Cadet World Championships in Poland with his crew James Ward. We asked him some questions about his experience with cadets and what he’s been doing…

Sarah Ayton OBE is a professional sailor and Olympic Gold medalist and a winner of the ISAF Rolex Sailor of the Year Award 2015.
Nigel Barrow is a Cadet World Champion.
Peter Bateman is a two-time Fireball World Champion.
Thomas Bayliss is a bronze medallist at a Cadet World Championship and a Flying Fifteen sailor.
Richard Bradshaw is a Cadet World Champion.
Sam Brearey is a multi class sailor, a European 420 Champion and a two-time Fireball World Champion.
Chris Brewer is a runner-up for a Cadet World Championship and a Farr 30, 29er & 49er sailor.
Steph Bridge (née Rowsell) is a five time kite race World Champion and currently ranked as number 1 woman in the world.
Martin Brown is a bronze medallist at a Cadet World Championship.
Sam Carter is a Cadet World Champion and a 420 & X 35 sailor.
Tim Carter is a 420, 470 and Nacra 17 sailor. He is currently a member of the America’s Cup team Land Rover BAR (Ben Ainslie Racing) in its Communications and Commercial Team.
Erin Clark is a Cadet World Champion.
Stephen “Steve” Cockerill is a Laser Masters World Champion.
John Connelly is rear commodore of Largs Sailing Club.
James Con is a Cadet World Champion.
Aaron Cooper is a Figaro Class sailor, a sailmaker and a member of the Artemis Offshore Academy Development Squad.
Toby Cooper is a 14 time Moth Champion.
Alex Corby is a bronze medalist at a Cadet World Championship, a Solo Youth National Champion, a professional athlete and a member of the British Olympic Bobsleigh & Skeleton Team.
Ben Cornish is a Finn National Champion and a Finn Sailing World Cup winner.
Nick Craig is one of Britain’s most successful sailors, and arguably the country’s most successful amateur dinghy sailor. He is a three-time Enterprise World Champion, a five-time(!) International OK Dinghy World Champion and a whopping six-time winner of the Endeavour Trophy (for the GBR Champion of Champions).
Abigail “Abbie” Croft is a Merlin Rocket (another Jack Holt design!) and a 29er sailor.
Caroline Croft is a Merlin Rocket and a 420 sailor. She is a sister of Abbie Croft.
Pete Cumming is one of Britain’s most complete multi class sailors currently sailing Extreme 40.
Nikki Curwen is a professional sailor who specialises in solo and shorthanded sailing. First woman to complete a Mini Transat race (2015), a solo transatlantic race in a 21ft boat.
Brian Ellis is a Merlin Rocket Champion.
R. Ellis is a Cadet World Champion (International Cadet Week 1951). And he is the father of Jacqueline Ellis (AUS), two-time Laser Radial World Champion.
Joanna Freeman is a runner-up for a Cadet World Championship and a 420 & 470 sailor.
Roger Gilbert is a successful multi class sailor, an International 14 National Champion, an SB20 World Champion and a winner of the Endeavour Trophy (for the GBR Champion of Champions).
Simon Girven is a Cadet World Champion.
Joe Glanfield is a sports sailor and Olympic Silver Medallist.
Robert Graves is a Cadet World Champion.
David Green is a Cadet World Champion.

Jack Holt OBE (1912-1995) was a sailor and a prolific dinghy designer and an successful entrepreneur. He designed, built and sailed the very first Cadet dinghy.
Nicholas “Nick” Hutton is a multi class sailor.
Mark Jardine is a multi class sailor. He is a European Champion in the Farr 30 and J/24 keelboat classes and has won several UK titles. He is also the founder of the YachtsAndYachting.com news website.
Thomas Kennedy is a Mirror & 420 sailor.
Chris Law (1952-2007) is often described as the most gifted sailor of his generation.
Michael (Mike) Law is a bronze medallist at a Cadet World Championship, an Etchell sailor and a Farr 30 World Champion.
Jamie Lea is a Cadet World Champion and a multi class professional sailor (Finn, Melges 24, Dragon) and Dragon World Champion.

Phil Morrison (born November 1946) is a British boat designer and racer. With partner Spud Rowsell he also built Cadets.
Stevie Morrison is a successful British yachtsman who has enjoyed success in a classes from the International Cadet to the 49er. Olympic 49er sailor. He is the son of Phil Morrison.
Keith Musto is a sports sailor, Olympic Silver Medalist and successful entrepreneur.
Lucie Offord was a runner-up for a Cadet World Championship and she is a 420 sailor.
Gareth Owen is a Cadet World Champion and a Dart 18 World Champion.
Alex Page is a 420 sailor.
John Pattison is a Firefly Champion.
Rodney Pattisson is an English yachtsman and two-time Olympic Gold Medallist.
Ben Rhodes is a sports sailor, a 49er World Champion and an Olympic 49er sailor.
