The UK Cadet Class & Pwllheli Sailing Club welcome the Cadet Class to WalesThe United Kingdom Cadet Class Association is delighted to be hosting the 2007 International Cadet World Championship at Pwllheli, one of the UK's leading championship venues, which offers ideal sailing conditions and shore facilities. The Regatta will include 3 Fleets, each on a separate course in Cardigan Bay.
The year 2007 will be the 60th Anniversary year of the Cadet dinghy. In 1947 the then Editor of the "Yachting World" magazine, Group Captain Teddy Haylock, had the brilliant idea to commission a design specifically for children and young people to sail. He asked a leading designer Jack Holt to come up with a design that was low-cost and easy to build at home. The rest, as they say, is history... In addition to the International Regattas, the United Kingdom Cadet Class National & Open Championships 2007 are being held prior to the World Championship from Saturday 28th July to Wednesday 1st August. Everyone will be welcome to enter this event; it will be a great opportunity to sail in Cardigan Bay and to prepare for the World Championship, Promotional or Novices regattas. Latest News

It gives me great to pleasure to look forward to the 2007 International Cadet Class World
Championship. It will be held during the 60th Anniversary year of the Class. It is therefore a
fitting tribute that the 2007 Worlds should be in Great Britain, since it is the birthplace of the
Class. Having been present at many World Championships, and having been involved with the organisation of the last one held in Britain, I know how much time and effort goes into organising such a great event. I am confident that the organisers for 2007 will work hard and do their utmost to ensure that it is a successful and enjoyable regatta for not only the World Championship fleet but also the others who will come to sail in the open Promotional Regatta to be held alongside it. As Racing Manager of the RYA, it gives me great pleasure to welcome
you to the 2007 Cadet World Championships in Pwllheli. We are hosting a number of high profile International events in the build up to the Olympic sailing regatta in 2012. Pwllheli is one of the key venues in the UK as we believe the excellent sailing waters, coupled with the superb shore side facilities and race management, will enable sailors from all over the world to compete in an enjoyable, international competition. The Cadet Class is one of the key feeders of talented sailors into our Olympic pathway and most recently has provided sailors such as Joe Glanfield (470 Silver medallist, Athens 2004) and Stevie Morrison and Ben Rhodes (49er Bronze medallists, 49’er Worlds 2006) Previous competitors at Cadet World chamionships have made lifelong friends with young sailors from other nations, as well as going on to represent their country at the Olympic Games. I suspect some of you will be planning to do the same, and I look forward to seeing some of you again in 2012.
