Rickmansworth Cadet Squadron April 2023 Update

After a quiet winter, with a solitary cadet out for a sail on New Year’s Day, the season really began for us with a trip to Farnborough for the boat show, and time helping on the Cadet stand with the famous spinnaker challenge.

Things got busy in March with four weeks of training at Fisher’s Green with Corinthian Otters. Huge thanks to Ewan, Christian, Paul, and everyone involved in organising the event!

All who took part had a great time, learnt a lot, and are well set for the season ahead. It was particularly good having a block of four weeks where the sailors could get to know one another, learn the routine, and see improvement from week to week. We finished at the end of the March with the team handling strongest breeze of the four weeks with confidence (and a rudder snapped in two for good measure).

Back to Rickmansworth to kick off the season on April 8 th and meet some new sailors –lovely to see seven cadets out on the water. We are still quite a new squadron, so seven is alot for us. More wind would have been nice, but we had a morning looking at technique, and an afternoon spent with some experiencing sailing for the first time - and an Easter egghunt with a difference – rounded off with pizza on a sunny and warm waterside. A big thank you to Barry (National Champion in 1957!) who led the morning training, and to Alastair for the afternoon games and pizza.

We look forward to the summer ahead of us where we hope to meet new people and hold joint events with our friends at Fishers Green Sailing Club. If you would like to join us, please do get in touch.
